Call for Papers

The theme of this year’s #AcademicTwitter Retreat is “community in academia.” As grad students, postdocs, and faculty, we know our content, but do we know the importance of building a community of support? What are best practices for community building? How can we leverage social media as a community? What are the benefits and costs of participating in the #AcademicTwitter community? How can we support the mental health of our community?

We welcome 250-500 word abstract submissions for 3-minute lightning talks on the topic of “community in academia.” Please send abstracts to thephdstory2019@gmail.com by Sunday, March 1, 2020, at 11:59pm PST. Letters of acceptance will be sent out by April 1, 2020.
Goals of the #AcademicTwitter Retreat

The #AcademicTwitter Retreat is not your typical academic conference. The Retreat’s collaborative format allows us to share best practices of community building and serves as a space for academics to connect with each other. Retreat attendees will participate in hands-on activities and small group discussions.

Location & Program
The Retreat will be held from June 26-28, 2020 in the MGM Grand Las Vegas hotel. When registration opens, there will be an option for room sharing.
A detailed program will be posted by May 1, 2020. Please check back.
Registration
The registration fee is $30 for grad students, postdocs, and independent scholars, and $45 for faculty. Registration will open on April 1, 2020. Anyone interested in contributing additional donations to help fund the Retreat will be able to do so when registration opens. Please check back.
